Flashback: The 2022 Canadian Grand Prix

Reflecting on the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix, it's clear it was a race of strategic gambles and key performances that significantly impacted the season. Racing for Red Bull, Max Verstappen secured a memorable victory, outpacing Carlos Sainz Jr. of Ferrari, who landed in second place. Despite facing challenges with his car setup, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes achieved a commendable third-place finish. This race also saw an impressive performance from George Russell, also of Mercedes, who finished fourth, and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, who remarkably made his way up from 19th to finish fifth.

The race was a turning point for Ferrari. Their strategy seemed more reactive than planned, with Leclerc's fifth-place finish coming as a surprise. Sainz Jr. showed strength in the opening sector, but Verstappen dominated the rest of the circuit. This race served as a catalyst for Ferrari to reassess their power capabilities and strategize for future races.

Mercedes, too, faced a learning curve during this Grand Prix. Hamilton's car initially underperformed until alterations were made to match the setup of Russell's vehicle. This adjustment suggested that Hamilton was not as comfortable with the new cars as he could be, a pivotal revelation for the rest of his season.

Another standout team performance came from Alpine, with Alonso starting second and Ocon finishing in the points. While celebrating Verstappen's victory, Red Bull also contended with a gearbox failure on Sergio Perez's car. The team managed to maintain control of the driver's championship with Verstappen's win, but they acknowledged the necessity for Perez's stronger performances to ensure their contention for the Constructor's title.
